Mental vs emotional health: What's the difference?
Sometimes you may have found the terms mental health and emotional health being used in the same line. You might even have been using them interchangeably with each other at one time or the other. And indeed mental and emotional health have very different connotations. Some readers may grow more curious in the way on how one can improve or maintain their overall physical health, etc others may have a newfound concern in understanding some of the mental health conditions and the available behavioral health treatments. When trying to learn more, there is a need to draw a line between mental health and emotional health.
Mental health:
is mainly centered on the act of perceiving oneself and evaluating and how these influenced behavior. Reasons that speak to a negative mental health include the development of negative mental attitudes that precipitate negative mental health. Emotional health on the other hand focuses on how healthy one's emotions are, for example, the ability to manage frustration, anger, sadness or joy appropriately. It also focuses on issues to do with feelings and interpersonal emotions and those that an individual has. While the term “mental health” covers from anxiety disorders to the autism spectrum disorder, “emotional health” could mean whatever an individual is emotionally. There is a need, therefore, to note that emotional health is not synonymous with mental health, although the quest for good emotional health is very much essential for good mental health.
Emotional Health:
First of all, it has to be mentioned that emotions are the core of many of our activities and choices that we produce in the course of a day. Emotional health pertains to how people feel about themselves, and how they manage to manifest their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The manner in which our well-being predisposes us to challenges, stress, and opportunity is deep and is able to go out of whack just as one can go out of whack in their physical health due to inadequate nutrition, sleep, or exercise.
Once again, intuition might include one's ability to choose constructive ways of dealing with things and instead seek comfort in risky behaviors like taking drugs in an attempt to avoid experiencing particular emotions. At times, such people use substances such as alcohol or drugs that have a way of altering the feelings and emotions that they have.
