How to Resize a Signature on Android Without an App

If you are applying for a banking exam, or any govt application then digital signature is required. And now a days most of the forms are filled online accept signature in jpg or png format. And almost every one of them asks you to upload a scanned signature in a fixed size like 140x60 pixels or under 20 KB. Since majority of the people take the signature photo from their phone camera, the file comes out very big and the portal simply rejects it. So this is a very common problem that people usually face, and the good thing is that you don't need to install any app for fixing it.

Let me tell you that there are two simple ways to do it on Android. One is offline, using the tools which are already there in your phone, and the second one is online, using a free website from your browser.

1. Take a Clean Photo of Your Signature First

Before resizing, the photo itself should be proper. Sign on a plain white paper with a black or blue pen and take the photo in day light, so there is no shadow on the paper. Keep the phone straight above the paper and don't zoom too much. When the photo is clean, the resized signature also looks sharp and readable, otherwise it becomes blurry after reducing the size.

2. Resize Offline Using the Built-in Gallery

Now if we talk about the offline method, many Android phones have a resize option inside the default Gallery app. Suppose you are using a Samsung phone, then open the signature photo in Gallery, tap on the three dots at the bottom and select "Resize image". Here you can choose the percentage like 80%, 60% or 40%, and it saves a smaller copy of the image. After that you can use the Edit option to crop the extra white space around the signature. On other phones like Pixel, Google Photos does the job for cropping and rotating, but exact pixel resizing is not available in it, so for exact size you will need the online method.

3. Resize Online

When its about exact dimensions or a fixed KB size, online signature resize tool like this one is the better option and the big plus point is that it works directly in Chrome or any browser on your Android phone. My suggestion is to use signatureresize.org for this. Just open the website, upload your signature photo from gallery, enter the width and height in pixels or the file size in KB which the portal is asking, and download the resized image. It takes hardly one minute and there is no sign up or extra cost also.

4. Check the Format and Size Before Uploading

Most of the portals accept only JPG or JPEG format, and some of them have strict limit like 10 KB to 20 KB. So after downloading, open the file details in your Gallery and check the size and dimensions once. If the file is still big, reduce it again little bit instead of making it too small in one go, because then the signature becomes unclear and portal may reject it for that reason.

At the end of the day, resizing a signature on Android is not a technical thing. Gallery app is fine for quick reduction and cropping, but when the portal want exact pixels or KB, online tool is the easiest option without installing anything on your phone.
