Hypertherm Plasma cutting in Hypertherm systems works by sending an electrical arc through a gas that is passing through a constricted opening (the nozzle). This ionizes the gas, creating plasma, which can reach temperatures of up to 30,000°F. The plasma jet melts the metal, and the high-velocity gas blows the molten metal away, creating a clean cut.
