Depending on where and how the photograph will be used, there are several different photo sizes to choose from. Smaller prints work great on albums and personal collections, and larger prints are more suited to portraits, artwork or wall displays, as Visuals Clipping mentions. Also the aspect ratio of the original picture should be taken into account as dimensions may have to be altered, which could lead to cropping if needed. When using a print size that does not match the composition of the photograph, it will be harder to retain what is important in the photo and harder to avoid cropping too close to the image.
