I've got a 2018 A3 with the 1.4 TFSI and the S-Tronic, and over the past few months I've noticed this really specific issue that only seems to happen when the car is completely cold, like first thing in the morning. When I start the car and pull away, there's a noticeable hesitation before the transmission engages first gear, and it feels like the car is almost stumbling for a second before it starts moving properly. It only happens once, right at the beginning of the drive, and after that the car shifts perfectly fine for the rest of the day, even if I stop and start again later. I've been trying to figure out if this is just a characteristic of the DSG when it's cold, or if it's a sign that something is starting to wear out. I found a site at auditransmissionrepair.ae/ that had some detailed information about DSG behavior in different conditions, and it mentioned that cold start hesitation can sometimes be caused by old fluid that's lost its viscosity, or by the clutch adaptation settings being out of sync with the current wear state of the clutch packs. I'm at about 55,000 kilometers and I've never had the transmission serviced, so I'm wondering if a fluid change and adaptation reset might solve the problem, or if I'm looking at something more serious like early clutch wear. I've also read that some people have had success with a software update that improves the cold start behavior on these gearboxes, but I'm not sure if that applies to my model year. Has anyone else experienced this specific issue on their A3 or Golf with the same gearbox, and if so, what ended up being the solution? I'd really appreciate any insights before I start spending money on diagnostics and services that might not even address the root cause.
