I've been saving for a Patrol for years and finally found a 2018 Platinum Reserve in Abu Dhabi, low mileage, GCC spec, seller seemed like a wealthy guy who barely used it. The price was actually decent and I was ready to pull the trigger after a short test drive because honestly the car felt huge and powerful and smelled like new leather. But something told me to be patient, maybe because I've read too many forum posts about hidden accident damage on these big SUVs. I decided to pay for a proper inspection from a company that specializes in used car checks. I won't name them here but you can explore more on their website if you're curious. The inspector spent about two hours with the car and sent me a report with about 50 photos. Turns out the car had been in a significant front end collision that was repaired but not well. The passenger side frame rail had been straightened and there was evidence of bad welding near the strut tower. The seller had told me it was "never in an accident." When I confronted him with the photos, he got defensive and said the inspection was "too picky." I walked away and honestly felt heartbroken for a day, but now I'm relieved because that car would have been a nightmare to insure and probably unsafe in another crash. The inspection cost me 550 dirhams but saved me from a 95,000 dirham mistake. Just wanted to share because it's easy to fall in love with a shiny Patrol and ignore your gut feeling. Always get it checked by someone who doesn't care if you buy it or not.
