Final Concentration Calculator - After You Add Liquid

Final concentration is what you actually have in the vial after reconstitution. It's the number you use to figure out how much to draw.

Formula:

Final concentration calculator (mg/mL) = Total amount of drug in vial (mg) / Total volume of liquid added (mL)

If your dose is in mcg, convert first: 1 mg = 1000 mcg, so final concentration in mcg/mL = Total mcg / mL added.

Example 1:
10 mg vial + 2 mL bacteriostatic water
10 / 2 = 5 mg/mL final concentration
That's 5000 mcg/mL

Example 2:
Same 10 mg vial + 1 mL water
10 / 1 = 10 mg/mL = 10,000 mcg/mL

Same amount of drug, different final concentration. That's why final concentration matters more than the vial size alone.

How to use it to get your dose:

Dose volume (mL) = Desired dose (mg) / Final concentration (mg/mL)

Want 0.5 mg from the 5 mg/mL vial?
0.5 / 5 = 0.1 mL = 10 units on a U-100 syringe.

Want 0.5 mg from the 10 mg/mL vial?
0.5 / 10 = 0.05 mL = 5 units.

A lower final concentration gives you a larger, easier-to-measure volume. A higher final concentration gives you a tiny volume where small errors matter more.

Label the vial with final mg/mL, date, and time mixed, refrigerate, and have your pharmacist or prescriber confirm your math before use.
