Both go high. Both are on every first-timer's list. But they show you two very different Dubais, and that's the part most people don't think about before booking.
One is a giant wheel sitting out by the sea. The other is a golden picture frame in the middle of an old park. Different location, different height, different story from the top.
1 . What You See from Dubai Frame - The Frame stands 150 meters tall in Zabeel Park, and the trick is in the direction. Look north from the sky bridge and it's old Dubai. Deira, Karama, Bur Dubai, low buildings, the creek side of the city. Turn around to the south and there's Sheikh Zayed Road and the Downtown towers with Burj Khalifa in the middle. Past and present, separated by one bridge. The glass floor panels in the middle get people nervous, kids love them. There's also a gallery about the city's history on the way in and a future Dubai exhibit on the way out.
2 . What You See from Ain Dubai - Completely different picture. Ain Dubai is on Bluewaters Island, 250 meters up at the top of its turn, and it faces the coast. So you get Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, the Marina towers and JBR beach right below you, plus a lot of sea. Mostly modern Dubai, the holiday side of it. The ride lasts 38 minutes, slow, in a closed air-conditioned cabin.
3. Price and Time - Dubai Frame won't hurt your wallet much. Adults pay about AED 50, kids AED 20, and you'll be done in under an hour. Ain Dubai ticket price cost little more. Ain Dubai tickets for the basic Views ride start at roughly AED 145.
4. So Which One? - Interested in how Dubai grew from a trading town into what it is now? Frame. Want the beach, the Palm and the famous postcard skyline? Ain Dubai. Short on budget, the Frame wins easily. Celebrating something, the wheel, especially at sunset.
Better still, do both on the same day. They're about 30 minutes apart by car. Frame in the morning when Zabeel Park is quiet, then head to Bluewaters for a late afternoon ride as the sun goes down over the Gulf.
