Teradyne expands robotics operations with new US Operations Hub , announcing plans to open a major facility in Wixom, Metro Detroit, Michigan in 2026 that will strengthen the company's presence in advanced manufacturing and automation across the United States and the Americas.
A Strategic Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
The new US Operations Hub reflects Teradyne Robotics' commitment to operating close to its customers and supporting the rising demand for automation, productivity enhancements, and manufacturing innovation throughout the United States.Located at 30540 Beck Road in Wixom, the 67,000-square-foot facility will initially focus on producing Universal Robots industrial collaborative robots (cobots) machines designed to work safely alongside human operators to enhance efficiency on factory floors. There is also potential for future production of MiR autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
Driving Manufacturing Growth and Workforce Development
In addition to manufacturing, the hub will serve as a regional customer training center, service hub, and visitor experience offering facility hands-on demonstrations, support services, and education on robotics deployment. The project is expected to create approximately 230 new jobs over the coming years, boosting local employment in the Metro Detroit region and contributing to broader economic and industrial growth. A $2.7 million Michigan Business Development Program grant supports the investment, which totals up to $32 million.
Why Metro Detroit Was Chosen
Teradyne's leadership selected Metro Detroit due to its strong manufacturing heritage, industrial ecosystem, and talent base making it an ideal location to support advanced robotics production and deployment. Proximity to major manufacturers enables Teradyne to deliver automation solutions with agility and responsiveness, directly serving some of the company's largest customers in the automotive, logistics, aerospace, and other sectors.According to Justin Brown, Chief Commercial Officer of the Teradyne Robotics Group, being closer to US manufacturers enhances responsiveness and strengthens collaboration with customers who increasingly rely on robotics to improve competitiveness, attract modern workforces, and achieve productivity goals.
Supporting Reshoring and Industrial Innovation
The new hub aligns with broader trends in reshoring and advanced manufacturing helping American companies adopt automation technologies that productivity while increasing labor addressing challenges and upskilling workforce capabilities.By setting up a robotics production and training center in the Midwest, Teradyne strengthens the region's reputation as a center for innovation and advanced manufacturing, leveraging local talent and industry partnerships to support long-term industrial competitiveness.
What the Future Holds
- Expanded Robotics Offerings: While cobot production will begin first, future phases may expand to include autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) as demand grows.
- Advanced Training & Support: The hub's training and service functions will help customers maximize the value of their automation investments and build stronger in-house robotics expertise.
- Innovation and Collaboration: Teradyne's presence in Metro Detroit will enable deeper collaboration with manufacturers, universities, and technology partners strengthening the region's role in next-generation industrial automation.
