Overview Of Rock Garden In Chandigarh
The Rock Garden, a sizable outdoor exhibition space in Sector 1 in Chandigarh, is home to sculptures created from industrial and municipal trash that were imagined and created by Nek Chand, a former road inspector in the city. It is a must-see sight and is situated between the renowned Sukhna Lake and the Capitol Building. This enormous 40-acre landscape, also known as Nek Chand's Rock Garden, is a vibrant tapestry of artwork and sculptures. Man-Made Waterfalls:
The garden's network of connected waterfalls is unlike anything you may have ever seen. Since the area where Rock Garden now stands was also utilized as a landfill for industrial and municipal rubbish, Nek Chand collected scrap metal from metal shops and foundries, then used his creative imagination to mould the pieces into shapes that resembled people, animals, or abstract shapes. These items have been artistically displayed in the garden as sculptures.
Shapes created out of a range of trashed materials, including frames, mudguards, forks, handle bars, metal wires, play marbles, soft drink bottle tops, porcelain, auto parts, broken bangles, fragments of slate, burnt bricks, and even human hair retrieved from a barbershop, are also on show.
In order to show how urban and industrial garbage may be successfully recycled and used in creative endeavors, Nek Chand recovered a range of debris from demolished structures, waste from lime kilns, disused street lights, electrical fittings, broken sanitary ware, tableware, etc.
