Eligibility and Requirements
- Eligibility: Both parties must be of sound mind, not already married, and meet the age criteria (bride 18 years, groom 21 years). They must not fall under prohibited relationships as defined by the Act.
- Documents: Application signed by both parties, proof of birth dates and residences, passport-sized photos, death certificate or divorce decree if applicable, fee receipt for the District Court application, and affirmation of no prohibited relationship.
- Notification of Marriage: Parties must notify the district marriage registrar in writing.
- Publication of Notification: The notice is published and objections can be raised within 30 days.
- Opposition to Marriage: Valid legal objections must be investigated within 30 days.
- Affirmation by Witnesses and Parties: Three witnesses must be present, and all parties must sign the declaration.
- Marriage Certificate: Issued by the marriage registrar, signed by all parties and witnesses, serving as proof of the marriage.
