Carbon Steel Plate and Corten Steel Plate
Carbon Steel Plate is a common choice of material in. industrial fabrication for structural purposes. It mainly of iron and, carbon consists, with the latter contributing to the strength and hardness of the material. Soft carbon steels possess excellent welding and forming capabilities, whilst high carbon steels have superior strength and can resist wear and tear. Carbon steel plates are made in accordance with standards of ASTM International such as ASTM A36 (structural use) and ASTM A516 (pressure vessel quality). For refinery and power plant pressure equipment, material specifications of ASME are the usual standard for the compliance of materials.Carbon steel plates find versatile applications in oil & gas storage tanks, boiler components, structural frames, shipbuilding, and heavy construction equipment. The combination of their mechanical properties, accessibility, and fabricability makes them ideal for use in load-bearing and moderate-temperature service conditions.
Corten Steel Plate or weathering steel, is a high-strength low-alloy steel that has been specially engineered to prevent rusting when exposed to the weather. It develops a protective rust-like layer on its surface from which the further reduction of the corrosion rate. Standard grades are released by ASTM International such as ASTM A588 and ASTM A242.
Corten steel plates have been widely applied in bridges, marine structures, industrial chimneys, and outdoor storage systems. They have been used for the external parts of petrochemical and power plants, which are exposed to changing weather conditions. Their main benefit is outstanding corrosion resistance at the same time as lowered maintenance when compared with normal carbon steel.
